Rochester : More Practices at Ellison

Continuing to practice at Ellison
August 16, 2013
Two drives (but must take first drive for score:)
Highlights: Hole 8 : ok drive for placement, 88 ft putt/birdie (Innova Dart); Hole 18, birdie

Lowlights: Bad putting

August 11, 2013
Two drives, no score keeping

August 2, 2013
Two drives, two approaches, no score keeping

Still using my Xcaliber star (Innova) for my sidearm drives, my Star TL for backhand approaches and Milleneum Omega for putting (!!!). I am also using my understable Discraft Stratus for short approaches that need to turn right, and my Innova Dart, as well my 150 gram Dx plastic discs, Cheetah & ArchAngel. I think I maybe selling most of my Discraft discs and stick with lower weight Innova Star discs.

July 25, 2013
Today's practice was at Ellison. The course was busy and two friends joined me as I introduced them to Rochester's most popular disc golf course. It was moderately crowded. Here is the play by play:

Hole 1/350ft ; Large tree to left : Excellent drive, nice up, par
Hole 2/390ft; Uphill curbing to left : Good drive, first approach hit tree, second approach good, +1
Hole 3/274ft: Downhill to right, trees blocking right backhand : High, short drive, short up, 2 putts,+1
Hole 4/387ft, Large tree to right, long  field: Excellent sidearm drive, nice up, bad putt, +1
Hole 5/241ft, Short hole surrounding by trees, root terrain; sidearm to right, nice up, par
Hole 6/190ft, Short hole on slanted terrain: Excellent drive, crashed into pole! bounced, rolled 35ft downhill, up and par
Hole 7/528 ft, all downhill: Excellent drive and roll, short and offtarget approach, 3 putts (ugh)
Hole 8/262ft,almost 90 degrees to right: Good drive, overshot approach to downhill cliff, up and putt,+1
Hole 9/470ft: slight uphill, then steep uphill: Good drive; off center approach, 3 putts
Hole 10/290ft: narrow downhill; Near perfect drive, +48ft putt Birdie
Hole 11/195ft: steep uphill to right, trees&brush blocking righthand backhand, par
Hole 12/250ft: plateau then downhill; horrible drive (20 ft), horrible left approach, 2 putts +1
Hole 13/600ft: very long hole! field to left, trees to right, then in trees; disappointing short drives and approaches; probably +3

Hole 14/270ft: straight lane through trees: nice drive, nice approach, nice putt par
Hole 15/360ft : tree lanes on levels; tree crash on drive, nice approach, overputt, +1
Hole 16/320ft; downhill to right behind large bush; nice drive, nice approach, good putt par
Hole 17/590ft: good drive, very good approach, nice second approach, +30ft putt for par clanged basket & missed,  +1
Hole 18/267ft; good drive, good approach (chance for birdie), missed putt, par

I had one birdie and 6 pars: mostly a good day with good drives;I used my Xcaliber star (innova) for my sidearm drives, my Discraft Hornet for backhand drives and Milleneum Omega for putting (!!!). I will try to return to my Star TL for my approaches, as I haven't learned the Hornet well enough yet.

Rochester : Another Practice of 2013 Season

July 10, 2013
Today's practice was at Parma. It was very poor, almost close to a disaster. I hiit many trees and threw a few into the water, but all discs were recovered.

I only had two pars: Hole 4 & 11:  Hole 4 at Parma starts in a field and bends inside woods to the left, about 520 ft. That was par 4, with about a 30 ft putt. Hole 11 is a very narrow 340 ft hole. I threw a tight sidearm about 260 ft which landed behind some bushes and trees jutting out from the right, preventing a clear line. I threw a forehand with with a right curve and perfectly got within 10 ft of the basket for a easy par. .

I mostly used my Xcaliber star innova for my sidearm drives and continued to use my Discraft Buzzz and Millimium Omega.

Rochester : First Practice of 2013 Season

June 19, 2013
Today I was able to get out for the first time in 2013. I visited Widener Park at Chili with a friend.

I played well for my first time in the field. I think I had 5 3's (par), 8 4's, and 5 5's.

By far, the greatest highlights of the evening were scoring a 5 on hole 11 and a 3 on hole 15.

Hole 11 at Widener Park is 911 feet long and probably the longest hole in Monroe County.
It requires consistent long accurate throws as the hole has trees and brush to the right and pine trees to the left.  I approached the hole with 4 consistent throws (averaging +220 ft. each) and then sunk a 35+ ft. putt.

Two holes later at hole 15 (431 feet in distance) , I bombed a sidearm over 240 feet, approached the hole with a Hornet that hooked left at the last minute, leaving me 5ft from the basket tucked in a cove. Par 3.

I mostly used my Xcaliber star innova for my sidearm drives, and I was pretty successful. I used a new Millimium Omega (Sirius plastic) for putting. I am leaning to use my Discraft Buzzz and Hornet for approaches.
